Grizzl-E charger: installed price and rebate
Classic Connect, Ultimate 48A, Mini Connect: the prices, NEMA 14-50 plug-in or hardwired, and which models get Écorecharge’s $600, and which don’t.
In short
- The Grizzl-E is a level 2 charger assembled in Canada, sold as a plug-in model (40 A) or a hardwired model (48 A and 80 A).
- Québec’s Écorecharge rebate is $600, on the purchase of the charger only, and only if you paid at least $600 before taxes for it.
- The trap: the Classic Connect is on the official list, but sells for $499.99 from the manufacturer. At that price, it gets nothing.
- At STM-Électrique, installing a NEMA 14-50 outlet for a plug-in charger usually runs $850 to $1,050.
- The warranty is 3 years (5 years as a paid option), but the cable is only covered for 1 year.

The Grizzl-E is made by United Chargers, which says it designs and assembles it in Canada. Two questions come up: which model to choose, and does it get the $600 rebate? Here are the facts, model by model, for Québec.
The models sold in Canada
This is the lineup on the manufacturer’s Canadian site on October 4, 2026, with prices before taxes. Prices change often: check them when you buy.
| Model | Power | Connection | Manufacturer price | Écorecharge |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Classic Connect | 40 A | NEMA 14-50 plug (or hardwired) | $499.99 | On the list, but nothing at this price (under $600) |
| Mini Connect | 40 A | Portable, NEMA 14-50 plug | $649.99 | On the list |
| Ultimate 48A (new model) | 48 A | Hardwired only | $649.99 | On the list |
| Duo Connect 40A (2 vehicles) | 40 A | NEMA 14-50 plug | $1,199.99 | On the list |
| Ultimate 80A | 80 A | Hardwired only | $1,199.00 | On the list |
All of these are “connected” chargers, controlled through an app, which Écorecharge has required since April 1, 2026.
The rebate trap
Québec’s Écorecharge program pays $600 toward the purchase of a home charging station. Three points to check:
- The price you paid. You must have paid at least $600 before taxes for the charger. A Classic Connect at $499.99, or any charger bought on sale below that line, gets nothing.
- The exact model. The charger must be on the official list. The non-connected Classic is not. Neither is the old Ultimate 48A: only the new model is listed. Check the model number on the label before you buy.
- The installation. It is never eligible: not the wiring, not the panel, not installing an outlet. The rebate covers the charger only.
When an electrician does the installation, their invoice must show their name and RBQ licence number: a quote is not enough. The program runs until March 31, 2028. Our guide on the Québec EV charger rebate has all the details.
Plug-in or hardwired
That is the real choice, and it depends on how much power you want:
- 40 A, plugged into a NEMA 14-50 outlet: Classic Connect, Mini Connect, Duo. A continuous load can only use 80% of the circuit, so a 40 A charger plugs into a 50 A circuit.
- 48 A, hardwired only: the Ultimate 48A is wired straight to the panel, on a 60 A circuit. There is no plug-in 48 A Grizzl-E.
According to the manufacturer, the Classic Connect can also be hardwired without voiding its warranty. To compare both options, see our guide NEMA 14-50 outlet or hardwired EV charger.
What it costs, installed
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| The charger | Depends on the model: $499.99 to $1,199.99 at the manufacturer’s price (October 4, 2026) |
| Installing a NEMA 14-50 outlet, at STM-Électrique | Usually $850 to $1,050 |
| Hardwiring (48 A or 80 A) | Priced in your quote |
| Écorecharge | Minus $600, if the charger and your situation meet the program’s conditions (see above) |
The exact installation price depends on your home and is in your quote. A charger is added to the home’s load calculation. If the panel is already close to its capacity, a load-shedding device can make a service upgrade unnecessary.

Request a quoteCold weather and outdoors
The manufacturer gives an operating range of −30 °C to +50 °C. Some sites say −40 °C: that is not what the manufacturer’s spec sheet says. The Classic Connect enclosure is rated for indoor and outdoor use (UL Type 4), and the cable is 7.6 m (25 ft) long.
The real warranty
- 3 years standard; 5 years as a paid option from the manufacturer.
- The cable is covered for 1 year only.
- Within the first 60 days, a defective charger is replaced with a new one; after that, with a refurbished unit.
- Labour (removal and reinstallation) is never covered.
- The warranty is void if you use an extension cord or a third-party adapter.
Wi-Fi and recalls
The charger only connects to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network, not 5 GHz. If your garage has a weak signal, the manufacturer sells a repeater. Good news: the charger still charges without a connection. No recall had been published for Grizzl-E chargers, in Canada or the US, as of October 4, 2026.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a Grizzl-E EV charger cost, installed?
The charger costs $499.99 to $1,199.99 at the manufacturer’s price (October 4, 2026), depending on the model. At STM-Électrique, installing a NEMA 14-50 outlet for a plug-in charger usually runs $850 to $1,050. Hardwiring is priced in your quote.
Does the Grizzl-E qualify for the Québec rebate?
Several models are on the list and sell for more than $600 at the manufacturer’s price: Mini Connect, Duo Connect, the new Ultimate 48A and the Ultimate 80A, among others. They qualify if you paid at least $600 before taxes and meet the program’s other conditions. The Classic Connect is on the list, but at $499.99 it is under the $600 line and gets nothing. The non-connected Classic and the old Ultimate 48A are not on the list.
40 A or 48 A: which one?
The 40 A version plugs into a NEMA 14-50 outlet on a 50 A circuit. The 48 A version is hardwired on a 60 A circuit. The right choice depends on your panel’s capacity and how you drive: we check that with you before the work.
Does it handle a Québec winter?
The manufacturer gives an operating range of −30 °C to +50 °C and an enclosure rated for indoor and outdoor use. It does not claim −40 °C.
Is it made in Canada?
The manufacturer, United Chargers, says its chargers are designed and assembled in Canada, and the official Écorecharge list shows Canada as the country of manufacture.
My Grizzl-E won’t connect to Wi-Fi
Make sure it is looking for a 2.4 GHz network: it does not connect to 5 GHz. If the signal is weak in the garage, a repeater can help. The charger keeps charging even without a connection.
Can I install it myself?
Plugging a charger into an existing, compliant 240 V outlet may not require an electrician, depending on the charger: the Québec government says so. Installing the outlet, adding the circuit or hardwiring the charger, no: in Québec, that work requires a contractor with the proper licence, even in your own home.
