In short
- Pointe-Claire’s housing stock is mixed: about 49.9% single-detached houses and about 32.3% in apartment buildings; buildings of five or more storeys alone account for about 20.9% of dwellings (2021 census).
- About 36.3% of dwellings date from 1960 or earlier, the largest share of any construction period in the city.
- In a condo, an EV charger generally goes through the condo board; Écorecharge’s multi-unit building component provides up to $5,000 for an individual charger.
- No deposit, payment at the end of the work, by master electricians holding Régie du bâtiment du Québec (RBQ) licence 5815-0137-01.
Our services in Pointe-Claire
We work in Pointe-Claire as we do on the rest of the island of Montréal, for condos, plexes, houses and businesses. Our master electricians are members of the CMEQ (Corporation des maîtres électriciens du Québec). Each of the jobs below begins with an on-site assessment.
Electrical panel
Breakers, 200 A, subpanel
We convert a fuse panel to a breaker panel, take a 60 A or 100 A panel up to 200 A, or add a subpanel if positions run out. The capacity chosen comes from a load calculation, never from an estimate by eye.
Service entrance
Rusted mast, meter base, paperwork
A rusted or poorly anchored mast is replaced while the service entrance is redone, at 200, 320 or 400 A: one service interruption instead of two. We also handle the arrangements with Hydro-Québec.
EV charger
House, plex or condo
Most often a FLO Home X3, a Level 2 charger designed in Canada, or a Siemens. Your charger hasn’t been delivered yet? We can assess the installation and prepare the quote before it arrives.
Generator
Portable or automatic
An outdoor power inlet and a manual transfer switch for a portable generator; an automatic transfer switch for a fixed unit running on propane or natural gas. The gas connection is entrusted to a gas contractor, with whom we coordinate the work.
General electrical work
Outlets, lighting, heating
GFCI outlets near water, 240 V outlets and circuits, recessed lights, thermostats and baseboard heaters, troubleshooting: we’re happy to combine several small requests into a single visit, and the estimate is free.

Get a quoteFrom the Chemin du Roy to residential towers
The old Chemin du Roy, opened in 1707 from Dorval to the western tip of the island, runs through Pointe-Claire: today it is Lakeshore Road. The city’s name refers to the point where the windmill, the convent and Saint-Joachim church stand. Suburban development began in 1893 around Saint-Jean Boulevard, and both sides of Cedar Avenue were already built up as early as 1920. Re-established as a village in 1854, Pointe-Claire became a city in 1911; it was merged into Montréal in 2002, then reconstituted in 2006.
The 2021 census counted 33,488 residents and 13,310 occupied dwellings there. Unlike Kirkland or Beaconsfield, where single-detached houses exceed 85% of dwellings, the housing stock is split between houses and apartments, and about 30.8% of households are tenants. Each type of building calls for its own checks.
| Type of dwelling | Number (share) | What we check |
|---|---|---|
| Single-detached house | 6,645 (about 49.9%) | The capacity of the whole house: panel, service entrance and mast, calculated before every new appliance. |
| Semi-detached or row house | 2,260 (about 17.0%) | The same points as a house; the distance between the panel and the EV charger, the main factor in the price, matters a lot. |
| Duplex | 110 (about 0.8%) | An identified supply and protection devices specific to each unit; for an EV charger, the meter that feeds it. |
| Building with fewer than five storeys | 1,515 (about 11.4%) | In a condo, the condo board generally gets involved for access to common areas and the allocation of consumption. |
| Building with five or more storeys | 2,780 (about 20.9%) | In a condo, the condo board generally gets involved for access to common areas and the allocation of consumption. |
The age of the housing stock matters as much as its type. About 36.3% of dwellings date from 1960 or earlier, and about 25.7% from 1961 to 1980: fuses may still be in use, and aluminum wiring is found mostly in houses from 1965 to 1975. Its connections are then redone using CO/ALR devices or AlumiConn connectors. At the other end, about 8.4% of dwellings were built from 2016 to 2021.
EV charger: house or condo
In a house, everything starts with the load calculation, which must include the charger. Three outcomes: the charger is added with no change, it works with a load controller that prevents it from running at the same time as another large load, or the capacity has to be increased. For a single-family house whose panel has room and with a normal distance to cover, an installed FLO charger comes to around $1,750, unit included.
In a condo, the installation generally involves the condo board, for access to common areas and the allocation of consumption. Écorecharge’s multi-unit building component can pay up to $5,000 for the purchase and installation of an individual charger, and its infrastructure component covers 50% of eligible expenses, up to $120,000 per building, before taxes.
For a house, the person who owns an electric vehicle can receive $600 from Écorecharge, applicable to the price of the charger only. Since April 1, 2026, only connected chargers, controlled through an app, are eligible. We check the official list with you before you buy, and the grant is claimed after the work, with the invoice.
Pointe-Claire permits and Hydro-Québec
In Pointe-Claire, any construction, alteration or enlargement of a building, a porch or a deck first requires a building permit. The application is submitted online or to urbanisme@pointe-claire.ca. The City’s page does not specifically cover electrical work; for our part, permits and declarations of work, when they apply, are our responsibility.
Pointe-Claire is not served by one of Québec’s municipal electricity systems: it is served by Hydro-Québec. When work on the panel or the service entrance requires a power cut, we contact Hydro-Québec and tell you when to expect it. The duration of the work is given to you with the quote.
Three steps, from request to report
An outlet to add or a service entrance to redo: the process stays the same.
The request
Tell us about the project at 438-542-7304 or through a quote request. The service entrance amperage, the panel brand and a few photos help prepare the visit properly: the open panel, the main breaker label and a wide view of the wall.
The visit and the quote
A master electrician comes to assess the installation. If a new appliance is involved, they also calculate the load. Their detailed quote, free of charge, arrives within 24 to 48 business hours. No fixed price is given over the phone.
The work and the report
The work complies with the Construction Code of Québec; we then test every circuit and the declaration of work is submitted. The detailed invoice and the work report are then handed to you, and you pay at that point, with no deposit.

Emergency repairs in Pointe-Claire
For an outage or a dangerous situation, skip the form and call 438-542-7304. Our emergency team is available at all times, day and night, and a master electrician is dispatched as soon as the situation has been assessed over the phone.
In the meantime, switch off the main breaker only if it is safe to do so, then move away. After a basement flood, have a master electrician check the installation before restoring power: that is what Hydro-Québec asks.

Frequently asked questions in Pointe-Claire
Do you work in Pointe-Claire?
Yes. We go everywhere on the island of Montréal, including Pointe-Claire, for houses, plexes, condos and businesses. For an outage in progress, call 438-542-7304 directly.
I live in a condo: can I have an EV charger installed?
Yes, but the condo board generally gets involved, for access to common areas and the allocation of consumption. Écorecharge’s multi-unit building component can pay up to $5,000 for an individual charger, purchase and installation included.
My duplex has two units: what difference does that make?
Each unit must have its own identified supply and its own protection devices. For an EV charger, we also look at which meter feeds it.
Do I need a City permit to replace my panel?
Pointe-Claire’s permits page covers the construction, alteration or enlargement of a building, without naming electrical work. If a permit or a declaration of work applies to our part, we take care of it for you.
How long will the house be without power?
A panel replacement leaves the house without power for half a day, sometimes a full day; the quote tells you how long. When the service entrance is involved, we request the interruption from Hydro-Québec.
How does payment work?
At the end of the work, with no deposit, in cash, by Interac, by debit or by credit card. The quote itself is free.
Can you inspect the electrical system before I buy?
Yes. Before the purchase, a master electrician reviews the panel, the service entrance and the circuits within reach, and gives you their findings in writing.
