How the calculation works
Kilometres per year × consumption (kWh/100 km) ÷ 100 = energy in kWh. We multiply it by 12.813¢, the price Hydro-Québec uses in its calculator: rate D second tier, taxes included, at the April 1, 2026 rate.
The starting values, 20,000 km and 21 kWh/100 km, are the ones Hydro-Québec's calculator preselects; they are not averages. Replace them with yours.
Not counted: the network access charge (46.154¢ per day), which you already pay, and charging done away from home. Hydro-Québec recommends avoiding charging during winter peaks, 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
In Westmount, electricity is distributed by Hydro Westmount, not Hydro-Québec: this calculation doesn't apply as is.
Before you buy the charger
- For Québec's rebate, the charger must be connected and on the official list: since April 1, 2026, one that isn't gets nothing.
- The installation invoice must come from an electrical contractor and show their RBQ licence number. Ours: 5815-0137-01.
- The installation itself is not covered by Québec's rebate.

Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to charge an EV at home in Québec?
The Québec government estimates $300 to $400 more per year on the bill, for 20,000 km and 85% of charging done at home. At the price Hydro-Québec uses in its calculator (12.813¢ per kWh, taxes included), a car that uses 18 kWh/100 km and drives 20,000 km needs 3,600 kWh, about $461 a year if all charging is done at home.
Does my city offer an EV charger rebate?
As of October 22, 2026, Boucherville, Mascouche, Repentigny, Saint-Eustache and Terrebonne have a program listed; Blainville has used up the 2026 funds. The table above gives the answer for each of the 31 cities we checked, with a link to the City's page.
Can I combine Québec's rebate with my city's?
Terrebonne and Boucherville design their rebate as a complement to Québec's: Terrebonne pays the cost left after Québec's rebate, up to $100, and Boucherville asks for Québec's rebate approval notice. Saint-Eustache, Mascouche and Repentigny say nothing about it on their page: check their conditions.
How many kWh per 100 km does an EV use?
According to Natural Resources Canada's combined ratings: 15.3 kWh/100 km for a 2026 Tesla Model 3 Premium, 19.3 for a 2026 Chevrolet Equinox EV FWD and 30.6 for a 2025 Ford F-150 Lightning Standard Range pickup.
Which Hydro-Québec rate applies to home charging?
Rate D, the residential rate. Since April 1, 2026: 7.065¢ per kWh up to 40 kWh per day of the billing period, then 11.142¢. Hydro-Québec says charging is usually billed at the second-tier price, plus taxes.
